The Flight of Sleipnir - Saga A5 DIGI-BOOK

“Saga” could be easily characterized as a theatrical act with beginning, middle and end, showcasing the wide range of beauty hidden inside. Of course, the already known blend of psychedelia / Folk / Doom and traditional Metal is here, heavily influenced by the Norse mythology, but this time it seems to be more well-crafted, enticing even the most demanding listener. The album’s opener “Prologue” reveals THE FLIGHT OF SLEIPNIR cards right away, proving that these guys are able for really big things, combining extra-expertise Folk Black Metal elements (including growls and melodic riffage) with the Doom-y down-tempo tunes. Tracks like “Reverence” and “Heavy Rest The Chains Of The Damned” show the solid writing of “Saga”, being absolute well-structured, challenging the listener to peel off one by one the album’s dark colored layers. I am sure you will also comprehend the huge amount of acoustic instrumentations during the 12 compositions, while, on top of that, you will enjoy the excellent combination of the atmospheric Black Metal-esque vocal melodies with Csicsely’s ethereal drumming.

If you have reached the conclusion that “Saga” is the band’s most melancholic work, then I tell you, you’re right; “The Mountain” and “Remission” unfold THE FLIGHT OF SLEIPNIR sentimental side (I really love the absence of drums in the first one), without making the album mellow (or even boring), since every track serves a specific role inside “Saga”. And while all these thoughts gravitate inside you, right after the first spin of the album you’ll realize the existence and the grandness of the aggressive, Black Metal side of Folk-ish melancholy and – why not? – you will even fall in love with it. 8/10
