Visthia - Reditus Conscientia CD

Finally something really new and personal! This band seems to push black metal in a new direction, without using weird tricks which have the only purpose of amazing the listeners, whose attention is rather caught by a killer sounds. This adds to the fast and aggressive Scandinavian tradition a bit of personality, hard to find anywhere else. The tracks are indeed easy to assimilate, but full of hate, and to notice that you just listen to “Vultus noster”, a very balanced track, with a chorus that sticks soon into your brain. The modern and powerful production takes its part in this, even though it might non be appreciated by those metal freaks who stick to rough and primitive sound. Still in this case I think that the sound fits perfectly with the songwriting, which clearly wants to move towards a new ground. It has also to be considered that in 2006 some attempts to re-create the recording style from 10 years ago might turn embarrassing and ludicrous. Apart from the mentione dopener track, I’d remare “Lupi tui non dormiunt”, that will drive crazy all the Setherial, Naglfar and Dark Funeral freaks, and the conclusive “Via Spinarum”, a paced and lysergic track that will take you to desolated and thrilling scenarios. A last remark goes to the singing in latin, which gives to all the tracks a mystic and obscure aura, and this is something that I never got from any other band. “Reditus Conscientia” is one of the surprises of this 2006 and it proves that it is possible to push a synthesis of the great black metal fron the 90’s towards new limits.
