Nowadays, the latest rage in metal is to write whining depressive black with many shoegaze elements. This one came into fashion not so long ago, approximately in the middle of the first decade of our millennium with the appearance of such bands like Alcest or Airs. In fact, when shoegaze started, black metal died. If 10 years ago, "Les Legiones Noires" saved somehow black metal for some time, now there is no chance for black metal to survive. That can be easily proved by the bullish amount of bands oriented to shoegazing black and the numerous failures of many giants of style. Facing the truth, we can admit with regret, that the sub-genre that had to carry on the glorious history of black metal, just ended and finally destroyed it. But, of course, this doesn't mean, the mixture of shoegaze and black metal sounds poor and we had not to pay attention to it. Yes, it is not black metal already, but we surely can call this pleasant, relaxing and beautiful music. Unfortunately, here are too many bands playing like this, similar to each other and also in the majority we can hear only pop, fake material, but it is not rare to happen on some worth bands. Now, exactly what about "Deer Twillight" itself. The cover causes the attention first by its mild purple cover with a lonely deer. Frankly speaking, that cover tell us very subtly and keenly about the nature of the release and the atmosphere here. The music is also affords a lot of pleasure to listen to it. Tranquil and calm tuneful music with clean voice doesn't show any references on heavy reckless riffs or unrestrained vocals and, so, it's the main essence of that release to be such soft and quiet. In general, I can call CBR's music cosmic and strange, it is slow and literally comes from the space. That's the main singularity of this type of music, the strangeness is the trademark of "Deer Twillight". It really sounds unusually and I cannot name any band, which sound can be more or less similar to CBR. It's not just shoegazing or post-rock metal, that album is something else, what differs from everything done before. And if I can call their debut in some sense same to, probably, Alcest, on "Deer Twillight" the band have already found their own style and sounding. This band has its own unique identity and originality. Just give it a chance and listen to "DT" until you'll understand the real nature of this post-metal masterpiece.
